Naji Abu Nowar received the Best Director prize in the Horizons section of the 2014 Venice Film Festival for his feature debut, Theeb, which is having its New York premiere in the 44th New Directors/New Films. The epic coming-of-age story is set in the Ottoman province of Hijaz during World War I.

Based on the critically acclaimed illustrated novel by Phoebe Gloeckner, Marielle Heller's directorial debut looks at the darker side of growing up, from the perspective of a teenage girl who is smart, sexual, and caught up in the throes of adolescence.
