“A gleeful hybrid of the seasonal football picture and the ubiquitous campus musical comedy”

In her feature film debut, Judy doesn’t appear until midway in the plot, but the last quarter of the picture showcases her in three musical numbers: “The Balboa,” “The Texas Tornado,” and the unwittingly omniscient “It’s Love I’m After.”

Stuart Erwin won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination as her hillbilly brother. Jack Haley—soon to play The Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz—and Patsy Kelly run true to comic form, while young Betty Grable, Tony Martin, Dixie Dunbar, and The Yacht Club Boys provide additional contemporary humor and music.
