Film Society previews Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina
Film Society of Lincoln Center have proudly announced “An Evening With Joe Wright”—a special, early look at his long-awaited Anna Karenina and an extended conversation with Wright and screenwriter Tom Stoppard, plua a screening of Oscar-winner Atonement. Wright recently announced that he will be directing his theater debut, Trelawny of the Wells, Casaire’s historical drama about the Congo rebellion. Anna Karenina is set to open in theaters on November 16 via Focus Features.
Tugg and Film Movement seal deals for more films to be available on demand
A deal has been made between specialty distributor Film Movement and theatrical-on-demand web platform Tugg to make several Film Movement titles available for local theater screenings, according to Indiewire. Partnered with Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, AMC Theaters, and film industry board members, including the likes of Ben Affleck, Terence Malick, and Richard Linklater, Tugg enables audiences to book film screenings that are part of Tugg’s library. Of the fifteen titles from Film Movement involved in this deal, Chanoch Ze’evi’s Hitler’s Children, Dusty Bias’ Prairie Love, and Joseph Infantolino’s Helena From the Wedding have recently been made available on Tugg.

2012 Nicholl Fellowship winners announced
The screenwriting competition organized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced five winners today to receive the 2012 Academy Nicholl Fellowships. Each winner received $35 000 to support them in the completion a full-length feature screenplay. This year, winners were selected from a record 7,197 scripts submitted. Amongst fellowship recipients, Allan Durand and Sean Robert Daniels are the first winners to hail from Louisiana and South Africa, respectively. Other winners include Nikole Beckwith from Brooklyn, James DiLapo from New York, and Michael Werwie from Los Angeles.
Since the fellowship's inception in 1985, 123 fellowships have been awarded. Successful recipients of the Nicholl Fellowships have gone on to create various films, novels, and television series. Notable fellows include Jacob Aaron Ester, whose film The Details stars Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks and opens at Film Society on November 2, Pullitzer Prize winner Jefferey Euginides, ABC's Castle creator Andrew Marlow; and Rebecca Sonnenshine, who is the executive story editor on the WB series The Vampire Diaries.
Trailer for documentary The Central Park Five creates buzz
A trailer from Sundance Selects has only added more buzz to the highly anticipated documentary The Central Park Five, from directors Ken and Sarah Burns and David McMahon. Set for a November 23 release in New York (and the closing night film of New York’s documentary film festival DOC NYC on November 15), The Central Park Five covers the controversial case of five non-white teenagers wrongfully convicted of the rape of a white female in New York’s Central Park. Covering issues of race, violence, and legal proceedings, The Central Park Five has also screened as part of Cannes, Telluride, and Toronto film festivals.
