On this week’s podcast, we’re looking back to the 46th New York Film Festival in 2008, when Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler premiered as the Closing Night selection. The drama went on to garner widespread acclaim and many awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for Mickey Rourke.

During the festival, Aronofsky joined NYFF’s then director Richard Peña for one of our HBO Directors Dialogues. There he discussed what he learned from trashing his first feature script, his interest in creative reinvention, his approach to directing actors, and more.
