We’re excited to continue FLC Luminaries, our video series presented by Netflix, which spotlights talent at all levels of the filmmaking process who uplift the art and craft of cinema. The latest features director J. A. Bayona discussing his goal of honoring the legacy of those affected by the fate of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571.

In 1972, the flight, chartered to take a rugby team to Chile, crashed into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the crash. Trapped in one of the most inaccessible and hostile environments on the planet, they were forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. Society of the Snow is nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best International Feature and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Society of the Snow is now on Netflix.
