During our recent eight-film retrospective of Arnaud Desplechin’s work, the French filmmaker joined New York Film Festival Director Kent Jones to discuss his latest effort, My Golden Days, following a Sneak Preview screening. The film, which was a Main Slate selection of the 53rd New York Film Festival and won Desplechin Best Director at the 41st CĂ©sar Awards last month, looks back on the life of Paul DĂ©dalus, played as an adult by Desplechin regular Mathieu Amalric, in three coming-of-age episodes. My Golden Days marks Amalric’s second performance as the character, after My Sex Life… or How I Got Into an Argument (1996), which played in the retrospective.

My Golden Days opens today at the Film Society of Lincoln Center with Desplechin in person for Q&As at tonight’s 6:30 screening and Saturday’s 1:30 screening.
