At a press conference just before the U.S. Premiere of their acclaimed new film Elle at the New York Film Festival, director Paul Verhoeven and actor Isabelle Huppert discussed the film with NYFF Selection Committee member Dennis Lim. This darkly humorous, unsettling tale is Verhoeven’s first feature film in a decade, and it shows that his ability to upend audience expectation and play with genre hasn’t waned at all.
A complete retrospective of Paul Verhoeven’s filmography, Total Verhoeven, begins this Wednesday here at the Film Society with a special Sneak Preview screening of Elle, and will include several live Q&As and introductions by the director. Tickets are on-sale now!
