Scary Movies 7
This year’s edition of Scary Movies features more brand-new offerings and guest appearances than ever before: nine U.S. or New York premieres from the likes of Eli Roth and Lucky McKee, a handful of gems from the 1970s and 80s that demonstrate there’s nothing scarier than being stuck in the boonies, and the New York premiere of the Cabal Cut of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed. Series programmed by Laura Kern and Gavin Smith.
Lineup
Across the River
U.S. Premiere!
A biologist stationed alone in the woods makes a frightening discovery. And, no, it doesn’t involve the wildlife…
Afflicted
New York Premiere!
Directors Clif Prowse and Derek Lee in person!
Clif Prowse and Derek Lee put a creepy new spin on the first-person “found-footage” horror subgenre, playing two friends who decide to document their tour of Europe despite the latter’s potentially life-threatening medical condition.
All Cheerleaders Die
U.S. Premiere!
Producer Andrew van den Houten in person!
What’s worse than mean-girl cheerleaders? How about the resurrected mean-girl cheerleaders with supernatural powers that populate this twisty, satirical take on high-school horror?
Baby Blood
A slimy snake-like creature with a thirst for blood finds refuge inside a sexy circus worker. And so begins what is quite possibly the worst "pregnancy" since Rosemary’s!
Cemetery Man
Rupert Everett stars in this zombie classic as a graveyard caretaker whose job gets a little more complicated when week-old corpses start unearthing themselves... and that’s just the beginning!
Cheap Thrills
New York Premiere!
In this darkly hilarious and terrifying portrait of the extremes down-on-their-luck people will go to for quick cash, an innocent evening of boozy fun devolves into a series of increasingly disturbed "games."
Curtains
Actress Lesleh Donaldson in person!
Six actresses are invited to a weekend casting session at a director’s secluded mansion, where a masked lunatic kills them off one by one. Is a scorned aging star (Samantha Eggar) trying to get rid of her competition?
Death Weekend a.k.a. The House by the Lake
A group of repulsive backwoods locals come a-knocking after a model (Brenda Vaccaro) humiliates them on the road in this atypically sharp home invasion/rape-revenge/exploitation thriller.
The Green Inferno
New York Premiere!
Director Eli Roth and star Lorenza Izzo in person!
In Eli Roth’s homage to Cannibal Holocaust, the small aircraft carrying a group of eco-activists on their way home from Peru crashes in the jungle, where the survivors are captured by an indigenous tribe who definitely aren’t vegetarians.
Haunt
World Premiere!
A family of five moves into a beautiful, sprawling dream home. One problem: it’s cursed, having caused the deaths of the previous family to occupy it, leaving only one survivor (Jacki Weaver).
Let’s Scare Jessica to Death
Recently relocated to the country following a stint in a mental hospital, Jessica (Zohra Lampert) witnesses strange goings-on involving a mysterious squatter bearing an uncanny resemblance to a long-dead woman—or is Jessica just unraveling anew?
The Nanny
Introduced by Bobcat Goldthwait!
Goldthwait handpicked this vintage Hammer psychodrama featuring a chilling Bette Davis as the title nanny who is placed in charge of a young boy who may or may not be murderous.
Nightbreed – The Cabal Cut
New York Premiere!
Seraphim Film’s Mark Miller in Person!
Clive Barker’s one-of-a-kind 1990 fantasy-horror opus is the tale of Boone—a man mysteriously tied to the subterranean world of Midian and its mutant inhabitants—his evil shrink (David Cronenberg), and a button-faced serial killer, at last in the form in which Barker originally envisioned it.
Open Grave
U.S. Premiere!
A man (Sharlto Copley) who wakes up in a pit full of rotting corpses and without a memory discovers that he’s not the only one in the same boat in this edge-of-your-seat thrill-ride.
Patrick
New York Premiere!
The comatose young man with telekinetic powers who forms a menacing connection with his new nurse is back with a vengeance in this crackerjack, gothic retelling of Richard Franklin’s 1978 cult classic.
Proxy
New York Premiere!
Director Zack Parker and cast members Alexia Rasmussen and Kristina Klebe in person!
After a pregnant woman loses her child in a vicious assault, a fellow griever takes a mysterious interest in her, setting off a chain reaction of violence and revenge in this truly disturbing indie where nothing is what it seems.
Rituals a.k.a. The Creeper
Hal Holbrook stars as one of five doctors whose annual camping excursion descends into a full-on fight for their lives. A brutal, little-seen example of backwoods survivalist horror.
Twins of Evil
In this delicious culmination to Hammer Film’s lurid lesbian vampire phase, orphaned twins Frieda and Maria (Playboy Playmates Mary and Madeleine Collinson) are taken in by their witch-hunter uncle Gustav (Peter Cushing) in the village of Karstein, whose Count inadvertently resurrects a vampire ancestress.
Willow Creek
Bobcat Goldthwait in person!
Bobcat Goldthwait’s first foray into horror livens up the found-footage genre, following a super-likable couple on a Northern California Bigfoot tour that gets increasingly hairy.
