Angela (Michelle Pfeiffer), wife of philandering Frank “Cucumber” de Marco (Alec Baldwin), has resigned herself to the life of a Long Island mafiosa. After he gets whacked, Angela decides to skip town with her son and start over. Among others, she’s tailed by mob boss Tony “The Tiger” Russo (Oscar-nominated Dean Stockwell) and a love-struck FBI agent (Matthew Modine). With its cast of oddball characters, evocative sense of place, and idiosyncratic soundtrack (featuring a score by David Byrne), this genial story about a woman’s dream to change her life is as playful and romantic as it is offbeat and perilous—the kind of mafia movie only Jonathan Demme could have made. Note: the 35mm print will have Spanish subtitles.
