After floundering as an extra, he falls in with a rent-a-family troupe run by Carlos (Carlos Chan) and aspiring actress Catherine (Catherine Chau), who hire themselves out as make-believe relatives. From a stand-in grandson to a bride’s substitute parents for the wedding—who knew surrogate families could be so in demand, let alone versatile?! Not all is as it seems, though, and complicated feelings are revealed in this irreverent yet touching Hong Kong comedy where family existence is treated as if it were some kind of civil war—with an irresistible sense of humor.
