On today’s daily NYFF61 edition of the FLC podcast, we welcome director Yorgos Lanthimos and actress Emma Stone to discuss Bleat, a Spotlight selection that made its North American premiere at the festival on 35mm with accompaniment by a live orchestra and chorus.

Lanthimos and Stone have worked together before, including in this year’s Main Slate selection Poor Things, but never in black-and-white on a remote Greek island with a herd of goats. In this entrancing, wordless collaboration, Stone gives a mesmerizing performance as a young widow who, along with her late husband (Damien Bonnard), embarks on a singularly unclassifiable journey through sex, death, and resurrection.

Listen to the Q&A featuring Lanthimos and Stone as they discuss silent-film acting, black-and-white film inspirations, working with goats, and more with NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim.
