FSLC to host a complete Béla Tarr retrospective with TURIN HORSE to open theatrically

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will host a complete Béla Tarr retrospective titled The Last Modernist: The Complete Works of Béla Tarr from February 3-8, 2012. In advance of the U.S. Theatrical Premiere of The Turin Horse on February 10th, the Film Society will present a rare “complete” retrospective of a living filmmaker, stretching from his early cinema verité portraits of proletariat life in Communist-era Hungary to the hypnotic, career-defining masterworks that cemented Tarr’s international reputation. The 21st Annual New York Jewish Film Festival presented by FSLC and The Jewish Museum Jan 11-26

The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 21st annual New York Jewish Film Festival at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, Jan. 11-26, 2012. The festival’s 35 features and shorts from 11 countries - 28 screening in their world, U.S. or New York premieres - provide a diverse global perspective on the Jewish experience. FSLC announces A RATIONAL MIND: THE FILMS OF EDWARD YANG, Nov 22-27

A Rational Mind: The Films of Edward Yang (November 22-27) is the first comprehensive retrospective of the critically acclaimed filmmaker’s work in the United States. The film series includes the classic, YI YI (2000), for which Yang was honored as Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival, former NYFF films such as A CONFUCIAN CONFUSION (1994) and MAHJONG (1996) as well as the short film THE WIND (2007), comprised of animated scenes from an uncompleted animated martial arts film among a lineup of films celebrating the work of a true master of cinema. The series will coincide with the U.S theatrical premiere of Yang’s masterpiece, A BRIGHTER SUMMMER DAY at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center on Friday, November 25. Read More
