FSLC announces lineup for Latinbeat 2013

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the lineup for this year’s edition of Latinbeat, July 12-21. Opening Night launches with LA PAZ by prolific Argentinian filmmaker, Santiago Loza, who has showcased his work at the festival since 2000, and is also an influential playwright in the indie theater scene of Buenos Aires. This year’s lineup also includes the previously announced retrospective of filmmaker, Matias Piñeiro, who will screen his films THE STOLEN MAN and THEY ALL LIE during the festival while simultaneously theatrically opening VIOLA and ROSALINDA at the Film Society of Lincoln Center on July 12th. Announcement for the Full Schedule for the 12th NY Asian Film Festival, June 28-July 15

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema in association with Japan Society announce the full schedule today for the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) which will screen June 28 – July 15. The popular film festival will showcase over 60 feature films with filmmakers and celebrity guests travelling from Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan to attend the festival. Also announced were special focuses for this year’s edition of NYAFF including a celebration of the career of Korean star Ryoo Seung-Beom and new works from the Philippines (joining the previously announced focuses on Hong Kong cinema, Taiwan pulp and a salute to Well Go USA). Hong Kong horror omnibus TALES FROM THE DARK PART 1 will make its World Premiere as the Opening Night Presentation, Jang Cheol-Soo’s SECRETLY GREATLY as the Centerpiece Selection and the Director’s Cut of Yan Yan Mak’s THE GREAT WAR makes its World Premiere as a special Gala Presentation. Taiwan cinema legend Tsai Yang-Ming will be presented with the 2013 Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award and A MUSE phenomenon Kim Go-Eun slated to receive the 2013 Star Asia Rising Star Award. FSLC & SUBWAY CINEMA in association with Japan Society announce the 12th NYAsian Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema in association with Japan Society has announced today that Jay Chou’s THE ROOFTOP has been selected as the Closing Night presentation of the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival. Also announced were 22 additional titles, including several notable premieres, highly anticipated titles and salutes to Hong Kong Cinema, Taiwan Pulp and the Well Go USA distribution company. The 12th edition of The New York Asian Film Festival will take place June 28 – July 15, with screenings at The Film Society of Lincoln Center (June 28 – July 11), Japan Society (July 11 – 14) and Asia Society (July 15). FSLC will showcase films of Argentinian director MATÍAS PIÑEIRO

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will showcase the work of Argentinian filmmaker Matías Piñeiro during the upcoming Latinbeat film festival (July 12 – 21) and will simultaneously open two of his films, Viola and Rosalinda, theatrically on July 12th. Latinbeat will play host to the NY premiere of Piñeiro’s 2007 film The Stolen Man/El hombre robado and 2009 film They All Lie/Todos mienten. Viola returns to the Film Society after debuting at this year’s New Directors/New Films and will be released in the US through Cinema Guild. All screenings of Viola at the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be followed by his short film Rosalinda. Read More

FSLC presents AN EVENING WITH JOSS WHEDON, Wed, May 29

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today An Evening with Joss Whedon at the Walter Reade Theater (165 West 65th Street). Writer-director Whedon will take part in a wide-ranging conversation about his career—from his Oscar-nominated screenplay for TOY STORY to his cult TV shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and recent blockbuster hits like THE AVENGERS. The filmmaker conversation will follow a special sneak preview of his bold and modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, opening at the Film Society on Friday, June 7. Read More

Submissions Open for the 51st New York Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is accepting submissions for the 51st New York Film Festival. The festival will take place September 27-October 13. Founded in 1963, as auteur theory and European cinematic modernism were crashing on to the shores of American film culture, the New York Film Festival stands as the second-oldest film festival in North America, and one of the oldest in the world. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today their inaugural FREE Summer Talks series, kicking off next week with BEFORE MIDNIGHT director Richard Linklater, actors Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke on Thursday, May 16th at 8PM at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center’s Amphitheater. The 2013 Human Rights Watch Film Festival, Co-presented by FSLC and IFC Center, June 13-23, 2013

The Human Rights Watch Film Festival returns to New York screens from June 13 to 23 with a program of 20 challenging and provocative films from across the globe that call for justice and social change. Now in its 24th edition, the festival will once again be presented at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and this year adds downtown screenings at the IFC Center.
