FSLC announces special presentation of LIFECASTERS film event with performance by MC5’s Wayne Kramer

Event includes new short films directed by Adam McKay (ANCHORMAN, “Funny or Die”), Shira Piven (FULLY LOADED), Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert (THE LAST TRUCK: CLOSING OF A GM PLANT, A LION IN THE HOUSE), and Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly (THE WAY WE GET BY). FSLC announces A CLOSE-UP OF ABBAS KIAROSTAMI, Feb. 8-17, LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE opens Feb. 15

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a rare chance to take in the full measure of a master filmmaker with A CLOSE-UP OF ABBAS KIAROSTAMI from February 8–17. The series will include 10 days of sublime shorts, his earlier work as a documentarian and a selection of narratives through a stunning string of films in the 1990s through to the present day. The Film Society of Lincoln Center will also open Kiarostami’s latest masterpiece, LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE (A Sundance Selects release) theatrically on Friday, February 15. Read More

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the lineup for THE LAST NEW WAVE: CELEBRATING THE AUSTRALIAN FILM REVIVAL, January 25-31, featuring a mix of established classics and forgotten gems, in beautiful restored prints courtesy of the National Film and Sound Archive. FSLC announces THE SHORTEST DAY, an international event celebrating French short films on Dec. 21

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today THE SHORTEST DAY (LE JOUR LE PLUS COURT), an international event celebrating French short films on the shortest day of the year, December 21st at 3PM, coordinated by The Centre National de la Cinematographie et de l’image animée (CNC). The screenings are supported by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and the Institut Français and will be FREE to the public at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center’s Amphitheater. Read More

Film Comment announces 2012 Best of Year Lists

Film Comment’s annual end-of-the-year survey of film critics, journalists, film section editors, and past and present contributors was released today with Leos Carax’s HOLY MOTORS, Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER and Wes Andreson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM taking the top spots among films released in 2012. Among films that made appearances at film festivals or special screenings worldwide, but haven’t been picked up for stateside distribution as of yet, Joachim Lafosse’s OUR CHILDREN, Song Fang’s MEMORIES LOOK AT ME and Alan Berliner’s FIRST COUSIN ONCE REMOVED received the top rankings. The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 22nd annual New York Jewish Film Festival at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater, Jan. 9-24, 2013.
