FSLC announces AN EVENING WITH TOM CRUISE and ALL THE RIGHT MOVES: THE FILMS OF TOM CRUISE

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that they will host An Evening with Tom Cruise on Monday, December 17th, taking a look at some of Cruise’s most iconic character work in a conversation with moderator and New York Film Festival Director of Programming, Kent Jones. The event will be followed by a sneak preview screening of Cruise’s new film JACK REACHER, in which he plays a tough ex-military investigator out for justice – a character that audiences have come to love from the three-time Academy Award® nominated actor. Tickets are $50 and $35 and all proceeds from the event will go to the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 50th Anniversary Fund, which supports the new education program and emerging filmmaker initiatives. FSLC announces SEE IT IN 70MM!, Dec 21 to Jan1

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that it will present 15 films in their original 70mm glory, featuring a mix of beloved classics and rarely screened gems, all at the Walter Reade Theater – one of the last remaining cinemas in the country equipped to screen 70mm prints. Fifteen rarely screened gems with original or restored 70mm prints, including 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD and beloved musical classics THE SOUND OF MUSIC, MY FAIR LADY, WEST SIDE STORY. FSLC announces lineup for the 21st edition of SPANISH CINEMA NOW, Dec 7-16

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the lineup for the 21st edition of SPANISH CINEMA NOW, December 7-16, featuring the latest, most exciting films from Spain, as well as a salute to surrealist master, Luis Buñuel. Kicking off this year’s series is Spain’s official Foreign Language Oscar submission, Pablo Berger’s BLANCANIEVES, an extraordinary lush, silent retelling of Snow White, complete with a traveling troupe of bullfighting dwarves. Closing out the festival is director Alvaro Longoria’s SONS OF THE CLOUDS, the newest film featuring Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem who takes audiences on a journey to the Western Sahara, where the Sahawai people wait for permission to return to their ancestral lands. MOMA AND FSLC TO PRESENT 42ND EDITION OF NEW DIRECTORS/NEW FILMS, MARCH 20-31, SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN!

The Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 42nd edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) from March 20-31, 2013. This year’s festival will welcome two new programmers to the ND/NF team, FSLC’s Director of Year-Round Programming, Robert Koehler, and MoMA Associate Curator Joshua Siegel, who have replaced FSLC Program Director Richard Peña and MoMA Senior Film Curator Laurence Kardish. Peña will step down from his role as Program Director at the end of the year and Kardish retired in October. The New Directors/New Films selection committee members from both presenting organizations include: from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Robert Koehler, Marian Masone, and Gavin Smith; and from The Museum of Modern Art, Jytte Jensen, Rajendra Roy and Joshua Siegel. The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Romanian Film Initiative are pleased to announce the continuation and reinvention of the yearly festival dedicated to Romanian cinema in New York City. MAKING WAVES: New Romanian Cinema continues the celebrated Romanian film series in New York and will take place at the Film Society of Lincoln Center from November 29 to December 5, 2012. The festival will offer a panorama of the best in Romania’s newest contemporary filmmaking, including features, documentaries and shorts, along with retrospectives of Romanian filmmakers, special programs, panels, and a series of conversations on the political and policy shifts currently affecting arts and culture in Central and Eastern Europe. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a 15-film centenary celebration of THE FILMS OF KEISUKE KINOSHITA, November 7-15. December 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of Keisuke Kinoshita’s birth, a filmmaker who is universally considered one of the greatest Japanese directors of all time. In total, Kinoshita made 49 films including his most famous, TWENTY-FOUR EYES, still considered the gold standard in Japanese film history and the critically acclaimed masterpiece THE BALLAD OF NARAYAMA.
