Film Society of Lincoln Center interns gain valuable experience while working at one of the world’s premiere non-profit cinemas. Internship applicants must be students seeking course credit.

Editorial Internship

The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Director of Editorial and Creative Strategy is seeking an intern to assist in daily editorial and creative activities for the organization, including materials published in its programming calendar, website, and magazines. The candidate would ideally have strong editing, proofreading, organizational, and communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and a serious interest in film. This is a nonpaid internship, so the ideal candidate would be in college to receive college credit and available two days a week during the hours 11 to 6:00 (there is some flexibility here).

Responsibilities include:

  • Proofreading text for programming calendars, magazine, website, advertisements, and sponsorship events
  • Taking part in discussions and giving feedback on creative direction for advertising and marketing materials, including video
  • Assisting in collecting materials and research for Film Society events when applicable
  • Assisting in reading, editing, and fact-checking printed and online materials for the New York Film Festival

Film Comment Digital Production Internship

Film Comment is currently looking for a digital production intern. Our ideal candidate is someone who has extreme attention to detail and is proficient in HTML. (We are not looking for a developer or someone seeking to gain experience in app/web development.) This position will be twice a week for college credit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the digital editor in reflowing text from new issues of Film Comment into WordPress and our web-based app CMS
  • Assist in converting the magazine’s 50-plus year archive into web-friendly formats
  • Proofreading materials for web publishing, including online-only content

Operations & Production Internship

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Gala Production team with creation/distribution of weekly reports
  • Creating production workflows/packets
  • Maintaining spreadsheets and tracking documents under the direction of staff
  • Taking notes/distributing follow-ups at staff meetings
  • Support NYFF Production Team in long lead projects like film tracking, data clean up, and submissions system oversite

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a university or a recent graduate.
  • Must be able to take direction well and work independently as needed.
  • Must be fluent with excel, google sheets, and contemporary email systems.
  • Must be a good communicator.
  • Facility with Keynote or PowerPoint helpful.

Public Relations Internship

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is looking for a motivated, determined, and organized candidate to join our public relations team. The ideal candidate must be in college to receive college credit and available two days a week during the hours 10:30 – 5:00 (can be flexible). Past PR experience in the film industry is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting press breaks, tracking and organizing all incoming press, and keeping press archives organized
  • Sending out DVDs to journalists, helping check in press at press screenings
  • Shadowing publicists on red carpets and helping with talent as needed
  • Conducting research for retrospectives and film series
    Assisting during the New York Film Festival (September 28 – October 15)

Receptionist Internship

The Film Society is seeking an intern for the Summer of 2017. This position will work through the New York Film Festival in September/October. This motivated self-starter is a fluent with spreadsheets and standard email/calendar systems (such as those provided by Google apps). Ideally two days a week with the option of increasing to three depending on schedule, from June 19th (flexible) through October 13th.

As a receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for the company and you will provide administrative support across the organization. You will handle the flow of people through the business and ensure that all administration tasks are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
  • Answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed
  • Receive and sort daily mail/deliveries/couriers
  • Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access (monitor logbook, issue visitor badges)
  • Update appointment calendars and schedule meetings/appointments
  • Perform other clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, collating, faxing etc.

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a university.
  • Proven working experience in similar roles
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Professional appearance
  • Solid communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
  • Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
  • Must be able to take direction well and work independently as needed.
